Message from the Chair

The Universal Declaration of Human Rights regards the right to information as a basic human right, whereas vide Article 19-A of  the  Constitution  of Pakistan, “Every citizen shall have the right to have access to information in all matters of public importance subject to    regulation and  reasonable restriction imposed by law”.

The Right to Information Commission (RTIC) was established through an Act of the Provincial Assembly of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in  November  2013, thereby endorsing Article 19-A of the Constitution of Pakistan, empowering citizens to have  access to information for  transparency and  good governance.

The RTI Commission aims to enable citizens to enjoy their constitutional right to obtain information. The role of this Commission is interactive. On the one hand it encourages citizens to know about their right to access information which in the past was out of their reach in public offices, while on the other hand it urges and supports public bodies in implementing the RTI Law and to realize and   understand their duties and responsibilities.

The Commission plays an equally monumental role in investing people with confidence and self-esteem to approach any public body for whatever information they require. This Commission is looking forward to active participation by citizens, the civil society and the time bound responses by the public bodies. This will ensure transparency and good governance which is the ultimate goal of the Law.
