Community dialogue arranged by Transparency International-Pakistan here at Mardan on Wednesday 24-07-2024

Corruption is a major obstacle in development which can be eradicate by exercising Right to Information (RTI). As a fundamental and constitutional right, RTI engenders public sector accountability and ultimately the fight against corruption. By using RTI, citizens can play their role to make climate governance open and transparent, as it empowers them to keep eye on public institutions. This was stated by Syed Saadat Jahan, Deputy Director Communication, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa information Commission (KPIC) while presenting his views on RTI and climate governance accountability, in a community dialogue arranged by Transparency International-Pakistan here at Mardan on Wednesday. Representatives of local government Mardan, civil society organizations, activists, and journalists were among the participants of the said dialogue.
Mr. Jahan linked climate governance accountability to the implementation of RTI. “It is in citizens’ hands that how much they exercise RTI for the betterment of public affairs” the speaker added. The speaker also enlightened the participants on writing RTI applications to public entities, and filing complaints to KPIC in case of non-compliance of institutions to citizens request under the RTI.
